Proposed rules for a team ladder
I'm considering running a ladder for the existing teams (ChessDojo, Triceratops, Basmania and so on). This is a proposal for how it would work. If you've got any comments, post in the Discord.
See the main team ladders page for more information, and current standings.
- For now, this will be a semi-manual process. If it works, I'll automate it
- The ladder would contain all the existing teams
- New teams start at the bottom of the ladder
- Each team should have a team captain. Team captains can stand down at any point. The team captain will be the main point of contact for the Tournament Director (TD) and the captains of other teams.
- Teams may challenge any other team that is:
- One, two or three or places above them in the ladder
- Has not currently made, or received, a challenge
- Has a team captain
- A team that wants to make a challenge self-organises and self-selects a sub-team of 4 players, using their dedicated Discord channel. How they do this is entirely up to them: any member of the team can initiate it
- If they don't have one already, the challenging sub-team must elect a team captain, who will be the point of contact for the Tournament Director (TD) and other team captains
- Once they have selected a sub-team, the team captain must challenge another team by submitting a challenge to the dedicated Discord channel and mentioning the defending team's captain Discord account.
- The challenge must include the proposed time control: either 30+30, 45+45 or 60+30
- There is no need to mention who will play at this point
- The challenged team captain should use their dedicated Discord channel to select a sub-team of 4 players within 48 hours
- Both teams should use the shared team Discord channel to communicate the team details
- There will be 4 matches, with each team member playing one member of the other team ranked in order of Lichess classical rating
- For boards 1 (the strongest pairing) and 3, the challenging team will play white.
- For boards 2 and 4, the challenging team will play black.
- All members have 72 hours to arrange their matches and 14 days to play them
- Each team member must let their team captain know when they have arranged the match, when it has been played, and what the result was
- It is the team captains' responsiblity to make sure all the games are organised and played
- The matches are played as standard Lichess, classical rated games
- Once all matches have been played, the team captains should post in the shared team Discord channel. The TD will update the ladder:
- If the lower-ranked team wins, they take the higher-ranked team's spot, and the higher-ranked team moves down one spot
- If the higher-ranked team wins, nothing changes
- In the case of a draw, the lower ranked team takes the position under the higher-ranked team
- If a player fails to play their match, or does not turn up within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, they will forfeit the game
- If a team fails to respond to another team's challenge, they will forfeit the round
- Challenges would be made as followed:
